MEETING DATE: August 23, 2010 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the contract with Nishkian Monks Engineering for welding inspection for the Vehicle Maintenance Building and HRDC Bus Barn in the amount of $400.00. BACKGROUND: Nishikan Monks Engineering has provided structural engineering services as a sub-contractor - under the general architectural contact for the Vehicle Maintenance Building and HRDC Bus Barn. The original agreement did not include welding services because at the time of the contract we were not clear has to what the final form of the building would be. Building code requires that welding inspections be conducted on certain portions of the building. These inspections are to verify that all the required welds were completed and that the welds have the proper depth of penetration. Attached is a copy of the scope of services and terms and conditions for these inspection services from Nishkian Monks Engineering. The contract is an hourly rate and details the needed level of service for the project. The contract is a not to exceed amount of $400.00 The number of tests has been confirmed with the Architect and the Contractor. As per the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding for the project, HRDC has also approved this proposal. UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None related to this particular action. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. Provide one- site visit to visually inspect welds made in the field on the office portion of the project (Grids C-D/l -5). This includes the puddle welds on the roof diaphragm and the welding of the roof joists to wide flange beams. Inspection excludes all welding done in the shop and the welding for the front canopy along Grid 5, which has not been completed, 2.
