Building structures with crawl spaces or basements in these areas can present many challenges,and subdivision plats typically include recommendations to avoid constructing buildings with full or partial basements in these high groundwater areas. If you elect to design and construct a building with a basement or crawl space and encounter problems with groundwater entering the basement or crawl space,be advised that under no circumstances will you be allowed to have a sump drain that discharges to a street or other public right-of-way, a sanitary sewer line, or onto neighboring properties. Sump drains installed contrary to this policy shall be considered a municipal infraction of Chapter 34,Bozeman Municipal Code, punishable by a civil penalty of not less than$100.00 or more than$300.00 for a first violation; a civil penalty of not less than $100.00 of more than $500.00 for each repeat violation; and each day of violation shall constitute a separate violation. Building permit applications for structures with crawl spaces or basements must include a signed copy of this policy with permit application materials.
