This report is submitted in conjunction with the completed plans and specifications to the City of Bozeman and is organized following the outline recommended in DEQ-2, Chapter 10. Section 11.1, Engineering Reports. The Bronken Warehouse is located off Nelson Rd and Prince Lane on Lot 5A of the Nelson Meadows Subdivision. This project is located within the City of Bozeman, Montana. See the vicinity map for location details. 1 PROBLEM DEFINED This project involves the connection to an existing 6” sewer service stub that ties into the existing 8-inch sewer main along Prince Lane. Sewer facilities included in this project will be designed with adequate capacity to handle the maximum peak hour flow for the within the warehouse that will be used primarily for storage, office space and trucking facilities for shipping. 2 DESIGN CONDITIONS The Bronken Warehouse will be located on property zoned M-1, (Light Manufacturing District) per the City of Bozeman’s zoning map. The capacity requirement for the sewer service is calculated as follows: Proposed Average Daily Flow The proposed Bronken Warehouse will have approximately 20 employees. Based on the Montana Department of Environmental Quality’s Circular DEQ-4. Table 3.1-1 each employee for an industrial building typically generates 13gpd. Assumptions: · Proposed warehouse will have approximately 20 employees · Sewer Flow Rate (employee) = 13gpd / employee Employee Wastewater Flow Rate(employee) = 20 employees x 13 gpd = 260gpd or 0.18gpm Total Wastewater Flow = 260gpd or 0.18gpm 4 Proposed Peak Flow Population = 20 employees Peaking Factor (PF) = (18+(population/1000)^.5)/(4+(population/1000)^.5) Peaking Factor = 4.38 Peak Flow = 260gpd (avg daily flow) x 4.38 = 1,139gpd or 0.79gpm Please refer to the table below for comparison between maximum pipe capacity and proposed flows to see that the proposed piping is adequate. LOT PEAK FLOW (gpm) PROPOSED CONVEYANCE *MAXIMUM FLOW FOR 8” MAIN (gpm) Warehouse 0.79 Existing 8-inch sewer main 346 *8-inch pipe at minimum grade (0.4%) with a roughness coefficient (n) value of 0.013 Predicted Average Daily Flow from Nelson Meadows Subdivision The original water and sewer report from the Nelson Meadows Subdivision estimated the wastewater generation for the proposed subdivision using the City Design Standards (March 2004) which uses an average day flow of 66,691gpd and a peak hour flow of 180gpm for 69.47 acres. The peak hour factor used as a part of the original report was 3.87. Using these assumptions, the predicted average daily flow for Tract 5A is as follows: Predicted Average Daily Flow = (66,691gpd) / (69.47acres) x (5.15 acres) = 4,944gpd or 3.43gpm Predicted Peak Flow = 4,944gpd (3.68) = 18,194gpd or 12.63gpm 3 IMPACT ON EXISTING WASTEWATER FACILITIES The proposed average daily flow and peak flow for Bronken Warehouse is less than the predicted average daily flow and peak flow. 4 PROJECT DESCRIPTION This project involves 58 LF of 6-inch sewer service connecting to an existing 6-inch sewer service stub which ties into an existing 8-inch main along Prince Lane. 5 5 DESIGN CRITERIA Design criteria including average and peak flows as well as sewer depth information were provided in previous sections. The proposed sewer service conforms to the State’s minimum vertical and horizontal separation criteria for sewer services. The proposed conventional gravity sewer system is to be constructed to the City of Bozeman and the 6th edition of Montana Public Works standard specifications (MPWSS). The sewer service shall be 6-inch diameter SDR 35 polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). 6 SITE INFORMATION The project site has been zoned M-1 by the City of Bozeman. The existing site sits within the northeastern portion of Nelson Meadows Subdivision along Nelson Rd and Frontage Rd. The existing soil consists of Blackdog silt loam (Appendix B - USDA, Natural Resources Conservation services, Web Soil Survey). The site is not located in a floodway or floodplain. 7 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS There are no expected environmental impacts from this sewer main extension, as the City of Bozeman Wastewater Treatment Plant has adequate capacity for the proposed development.
