COMMUNITY BENEFIT
PROJECT COMPASS
To illustrate the integrated design process that produced
the subject masterplan, the project’s design compass has
been presented here. Early on in the design process, the
project team carefully and collaboratively crafted this
holistic project compass to guide the master plan design.
The compass addresses many aspects of the project
(breaking them down into sub categories) and rates the
ambition level for each: from current market standard to
improved, better, and exemplary.
This approach allowed the proposed master plan to
potentially become much more than just the sum of
the individual pieces and truly contribute to the quality
of the larger whole: the community of Bozeman. Each
category that was made a priority was the North Central
design and ownership team’s commitment of impacting
the community in that way. The compass was used as a
“living document” to inspire and evaluate the master plan
design process.
