Box 1113 Bozeman, MT 59715 Prepared By: Jack R. Sch Glenn A. MM# 2538. V W0310 S H N, ? , 4615 E sf0N0- iyu%a>>' HRDC HOUSING PROJECT EXTENSION OF CITY OF BOZEMAN WATER AND SEWER SYSTEMS BOZEMAN, MONTANA SCOPE This report is presented as a basis of design for the extension of existing City of Bozeman water and sanitary water mains for this HRDC subdivision. This existing 10.12 acre site is located in the W 1/2 of NE 1/4 of Section 11, Township 2 South, Range 5 East, P.M.M. , Gallatin County, Montana. The subdivision site is within the city limits of Bozeman. The proposed improvements include: 1. Asphalt street improvements include 1630 lineal feet of streets to the City of Bozeman Standards, including curb, gutter and sidewalks. 2. Water main extension includes 2045 lineal feet of 8-inch DI pipe and 676 lineal feet of 10-inch DI pipe. 3. Sanitary sewer main extension includes 1433 lineal feet of 8-inch and 1546 lineal feet of 10-inch SDR 35 PVC pipe. SANITARY SEWER Generated Wastewater Assumptions Slope = 1% Manning's n = 0.013 Average household = 3.2 people Average wastewater = 100 gpd (per person) Peaking factor = 4.1 Proposed Service Area for new main between West Babcock and Beall Street to include the proposed subdivision and 34 additional existing and future units along Western Drive and the future extension of N. 25th south of Mendenhall. Proposed Service Area for new main between Beall Street and Durston Road to include the above described area and 56 existing and future units along Western Drive and N. 25th north of Menden- hall and the 18.2 acres lying east of N. 25th and south of Dur- ston. 20% of the undeveloped acreage will be deducted for streets and parkland, with the remainder to be developed as four family, two story apartment. (R-4 oning for these dwellings state lot size to be 5000 ft + 800 ft for each unit over one) . New Main within proposed subdivision Living units H.R.D.C. 51 units (27 single family + 24 multi-family units) Surrounding Area 34 units TOTAL 85 units Generated Wastewater: 85 units x 3.2 people x 100 _qpd x 1 day x 1 hr = 18.9 gpm, unit person 24 hr 60 min Peak demand = 18.9 gpm x 4.1 peaking factor = 77. 5 gpm Capacity of 8-inch main at 1% slope Manning' s Equation 82/3 Q = 1.49 x (8/12)2 x 12 x (0.01)1/2 = 1.21 cfs 0.013 4 4 Q = 1.21 cfs x 448.8 gpm/cfs = 544 gpm Summary - 8-inch adequate for proposed flow New Main South of proposed Subdivision Living Units West of N. 25th 51 units Living Units (R-4) 343 units 394 units Generated Wastewater: 394 units x 3.2 people x 100 gpd x 1 day x 1 hr = 87.6 gpm unit person 24 hr 60 min Peak demand = 87.6 gpm x 4.1 = 359.2 gpm Total flow = 77.5 gpm + 359.2 gpm = 436.7 gpm Total flows generated approximately 450 gpm 544 gpm - 450 gpm = 94 gpm (pipe capacity at 94% full = 592 gpm) Summary - 8-inch main capacity at 1% sufficient for proposed population density. WATER Water supply for the proposed subdivision will be by the City of Bozeman distribution system. Existing 10-inch water mains are located in West Babcock and in West Durston Road. The water main for the subdivision will loop between these two 10-inch existing water mains. The average daily water pressure is approximately 140 psi ( from City of Bozeman, Water Distribution System Computer Model Numbering System Appendix B) . An 8-inch ductile iron water main is proposed to loop between the existing 10-inch water mains described above. An extension of the West Durston Road 10-inch water main is part of this project. Fire hydrants and gate valves are included in accordance with standard requirements. The proposed subdivision will consist of: 27 single family homes 24 multi-family units in 6 four plex buildings 51 total living units Water consumption per units is 320 gallons per day. 3.2 persons per living unit 100 gallons per person Domestic water demand is 51 units x 3 . 2 persons x 100 gpd = 16,320 gpd or 11.33 gpm Design flow requirements = 11.33 gpm x 9 peak factor (Salvato) = 102 gpm Irrigation is 667 gallons per day per building unit. 27 single family units 6 multi-family units 33 buildings Total irrigation demand is 33 units x 667 gpd = 22, 011 gpd or 15.3 gpm for irrigation. Total demand is Domestic + Irrigation = 102 gpm + 15 .3 gpm = 117.3 gpm Fire protection requirement: 1500 gpm for 2 hours to be provided by the City of Bozeman. The proposed 8-inch water main will supply at least 2494 gpm with 35 psi residual in the system. See attached computed variable sheets. SPECIFICATIONS: Montana Public Works Standard Specifications, Third Edition, October 1988 with Addendum No . 1 and City of Bozeman Modifications will be used to install these improvements. Depth of bury will provide a minimum cover of 6. 5 vertical feet over the water mains. Class 51 Ductile Iron Pipe will be the pipe materials. Sanitary sewer pipe materials will be SDR 35 PVC pipe. Manholes will be 48 inch diameter. C:\2538\design.rpt -• i i cii I ai' Ch .nne i h'111• 1 : __ L•'C { + rl I.p k'ii C h=.n f l!'
