Pedestrian Connectivity
NWX is designed to provide thoughtful multi-modal connections from surrounding properties and uses and throughout the community. It is anticipated that the NWX commercial area will be an attractable place to people using the Bozeman Sports Park, attending the high school, and to people living in the surrounding neighborhoods, especially as this western edge of Bozeman continues to evolve. Thus, NWX provides enhanced pedestrian connections along S. Cottonwood Rd. and will utilize the newly constructed pedestrian connections at the intersection of Cottonwood Rd. and Oak St. It is also envisioned that people living and experiencing these surrounding areas will also enjoy the myriad of sidewalks, trails, and parks in the neighborhood, especially those that are integral to Homestead Park.
Pedestrian connections, consisting of a network of soft-surface trails and sidewalks, are a focal point of NWX. The natural areas along Homestead Park will be enhanced to provide a key north-south connection for an integrated network of parks and trails. These parks and trails establish NWX as being an active neighborhood that addresses the guiding principles found in the 2007 PROST Plan. The integrated network of trails across the neighborhood allows for the various parks and open spaces to be accessible to local residents and visitors, creating opportunities for social and recreational activities to take place within the neighborhood on a daily basis. This trail network within NWX allows people to access anywhere within the community by encouraging walking, running, and biking.
Trails and walks along streets will meander, where possible, to enhance the pedestrian experience and heighten a sense of exploration within the natural and streetscape corridors of the community. It is envisioned that this trail network will also attract people from nearby neighborhoods, the high school and Bozeman Sports Park. Along with the north-south oriented trails, a system of east-west trails and sidewalk systems will connect the neighborhood to the surrounding community.
For all new development, a pedestrian sidewalk network will be provided along all public and private roads internal to the project and along all edge roadways in accordance with the plans and specifications set forth herein. Mid-block crossings are permitted, subject to City standards. Wayfinding signage, pedestrian furniture, enhanced paving at crosswalks / intersections, and other elements may be located within the public right-of-way.
