MEMO DETAILS:
The purpose of this memo is to outline the estimated peak sanitary sewer demand for the site
development of Headwaters Academy. The demand is estimated based on Montana Department of
Environmental Quality Circular 4 for a school.
MDEQ Circular 4:
An average wastewater flow rate of 15 gallons per day per student was assumed as outlined in the
Montana Standards for Subsurface Wastewater Treatment Systems. This flow rate is for a school with
a cafeteria only (no gym or showers). Please see the attached calculations for additional information.
A summary is provided below.
90 Students
1,350 gal/day base rate
Peaking factor (P=.09) 4.26
Peak Demand = 5,745 gpd = 3.99 gpm
The attached calculations also provide an average day and peak demand for a school with a cafeteria,
gym, and showers. The current site plan for Headwaters Academy does not include a gymnasium or
showers. These values are provided in the case that future development will include these amenities.
