This project willconnect to City of Bozeman water main extensions on Huffine Lane, College Street,Garfield Street and Fowler Avenue.Mitchell Development is proposing to develop approximately 72.20 acres consistingof commercial lots and open space areas. For design purposes, a B-2 Zoning willbe assumed for the project. Also included in the design flow calculations is 160residential units with 2.5 people per unit. The project is located just west of theexisting Advanced Technology Park, with College Street and Huffine Lane along thenorth, the extension of Garfield Street along the south and Fowler Avenue along thewest. The existing City of Bozeman's water system in this area consists of a twelve inchwater main which extends along College Street and Huffine Lane, an eight inchwater main on Fowler Avenue, and an eight inch water main on Garfield Street.2.0 IntroductionWater for domestic use and fire protection will be provided by connection to the Cityof Bozeman water system. Connection to the existing water system will occur at sixlocations. Two of the connections will be to the existing twelve inch water mainalong; Huffine Lane and Harmon Stream Blvd., and on College Street just west ofthe Bozeman Chronicle Building at the intersection of College Street and ChronicleDrive. Two connections will be to the existing eight inch water main on Fowler;Fowler Avenue and Technology Blvd., and on Fowler 200' south of the FarmersCanal. Two connections will be to the existing eight inch water main on Garfield;Garfield Street and Harmon Stream Blvd., and Garfield Street and Chronicle Drive.BOZEMAN GATEWAY SUBDF/ISION WATER MAIN EXTENSIONSDESIGN REPORTPage 4 This design report will detail the information, assumptions and methods used toprove that the proposed design will provide adequate flow and pressure whenmeeting domestic supply and fire flow for the Bozeman Gateway Subdivision. Thehydraulic analysis will be completed using Haestads WaterCad forAutoCad 2004,(a.k.a. Cybernet) software program.3.0 Pre-AnalysisBefore the analysis can begin, foundational data is acquired regarding variablessuch as average daily water demand, required fire flows, boundary pressures and/ortank locations, pipe materials, elevations and relative location of all otherappurtenant components. Once the information is determined or calculated it isinserted into the software's database to create a model of the water system. The next few sections explain the method for determining and or calculating thedata required to model the water system for the Bozeman Gateway Subdivision. Each node, pipe and or pump included in the model has to include thecharacteristics of the water system installed. After each piece of the model iscomplete the hydraulic analysis can be run.4.0 Predicted Average Daily Water DemandWater demand predicted in this report is based on City of Bozeman DesignStandards and Specification Policy, dated March 2004. This document suggeststhat an overall annual average daily demand of 200 gpd per person should be usedfor all future development. This demand estimate includes:1) Base Flow Water.2) Increased summer usage including lawn and garden irrigation, non-commercial car washing, cleaning sidewalks, and other miscellaneousmetered uses.3) Unaccounted for water usage such as street cleaning, hydrant flushing, sewer flushing, fire flows, flat rate accounts, leakage, and under registeringmeters. The following table indicates the service area utilized and theAverage Daily Water Demand for this hydraulic analysis.Using the City of Bozeman's Design Standards and Specification Policy, TableV-2, pp. 46, a flow of 3495 (Gallons /Acre/Day) for the commercial usage in a B-BOZEMAN GATEWAY SUBDFVISION WATER MAIN EXTENSIONSDESIGN REPORTPage 5 5.02 zone and a demand of 200 (Gallons/Day/Person) for the possible residentialunits in the subdivision is to be used when determining water demand for theproject.Table 4.1Service Area and Average Daily DemandService AreaCommercialLot Area Flow(acres) (Gal./Acre/Day)72.203495Units People/Unit Demand(GPD/Person)Residential 160Peak Demand Factors2.5200TOTALAvg Daily DemandGPD GPM252,339 175.2GPD GPM80,000 55.6332,339 230.8For planning purposes the Maximum Daily Demand Factor used will be 2.5 and thePeak Hourly Demand Factor used will be 3.0.T/?ese peaking factors were taken from the City of Bozeman, DesignStandards and Specifications Policy March 2004 - Section V. UtilityDesign Criteria, sub-section A. Water Distribution Lines Design Criteria,Paragraph 4, page 426.0 Pressure ZonesData from City of Bozeman "Hydrant Pressure/Flow Request" indicate staticpressures range from 100 psi to 120 psi for the Bozeman Gateway Subdivision.7.0 Modeling ProcedureThe proposed water distribution system for Bozeman Gateway Subdivision wasmodeled using WaterCAD forAutoCad 2004, (a.k.a. Cybernet) and the informationdetailed in this report. The total water demand for the system includes theMaximum Daily Demand and the required fire flow of a minimum of 1500 gpm. TheMaximum Daily Demand is calculated by multiplying the Average Daily Demand byBOZEMAN GATEWAY SUBDIVISION WATER MAFN EXTENSIONSDESIGN REPORTPage 6 a peaking factor of 2.5 as described above. The Fire flow requirements werediscussed with the Bozeman Fire Chief. The Fire Chief felt a minimum of 1500 gpmfire flow was adequate with the buildings within the development being required tobe sprinklered.Information from seven area fire hydrants was used as connections to the existingCity of Bozeman water system for the modeling of the area water distributionsystem. The static, residual and pitot pressures for the fire hydrants located at;hfuffine Lane and Fowler Avenue, Huffine Lane across from the west entrance tothe Gallatin Valley Mali, College Street just east of the Huffine Lane and CollegeStreet intersection, on College Street just east of the Bozeman Chronicle Building, the west end of the eight inch water main extension at the Bozeman Chronicle, thewest end of Technology Boulevard, and the west end of Garfield Street, wereobtained from the City of Bozeman Water Department. This information was usedto develop a relationship between residual pressure and flow as simulated in themodel by a pump and a reservoir. (See the associated pump curves calculated foreach of the fire hydrants located in the appendix at the end of this report)The minimum pressure used for pipe main sizing was 35-psi during normal usesand no less than 20-psi residual pressure during fire hydrant full flow condition atany supply node.8.0 Model ResultsThe model's results indicate that looped 8-inch distribution mains will supply theestimated domestic demand for the Bozeman Gateway Subdivision. The peak hourdemand will be supplied with a residual pressure exceeding 35 psi.A conservative approach was used to model the needed maximum daily demandincluding a minimum 1500 gpm fire flow. This scenario was modeled with oneconnection point. The connection is located at Chronicle Drive (Pump 3). Asshown in the attached results, the water system will have a residual pressure of 20psi or greater. The WaterCAD model flow results are located in the appendix at theend of this report.9.0 ConclusionThe eight inch water mains proposed for Bozeman Gateway Subdivision will meetthe design criteria of the City of Bozeman's Design Standards and SpecificationsPolicy.H:\3638\002-ENG\DOCS\DESIGN-RPTS\WATER\DZNRPTW-REVISED-051706.DOCBOZEMAN GATEWAY SUBDF/ISION WATER MAIN EXTENSIONSDESIGN REPORTPage? /^a ^\l®fc?s^^^Q?^•»0f^0^rrfl&S!!V±tt,LLECE STREETc's\-a'•^......^^zy-.^S^- CONNECTION POINT_^^^^^^===^^-—^^^^^^^^^^I-4.-aE3!=iSL^-eb——7-^TTF^ONNECTIQK.EQDffi\-m'•-TW C4^ 30,^9i<L,•^C=3.^==26.946 SqFtL\I—•--IN-I^s31111 II -\s i z-irll alyiMj1111111C^~C3||20,742 SqF:Sill!LOT WL 14IV®2t5,485 SalLI' nlUs6,042 SqFt^ 149,478 SqFt ^I1"""" I¥1u1'11^-.._.--Iff--"; /jy-^sSM'i]^<^..^1\ \\w•^taaas== C S <=n cc: I? i.e=3IISqFLOT C"?80,121 S<]F0^C=» (3^\•ilu"=>..CONNEC^IctPoAr2"0^r£5"l<1ctt19;20S,'S;F< jf ^ I III'» f ' I LOT 36^r""'"t'"~ J.sieS3~T'~ v | ^£^7 Sqn -}..|£ ^?^ Ci|1-fiP un..^4l—tFL•iffl/+1-^^.Q^y-s /^^J /^''~~^———|^/te7'^A " \yW^;~—y \ % t?.+6 SqFt-as-J_ I l23.697 SqFt |—l-' % 1\ LOT 23\i-ti*.3OTr^^AV\fG!w'WvFi\QJJ^:KN\r"•-TD:AOT\\%lli"•<\^5^1.^1!/ILi^^-./43Ft^-.-^-J1—C:7•;*8,i,^-^E?^-sst^•^:/'.;-'».--"un.---^SS--'-iBA:^s^-e^^Ir--MnsI ILOT 45dn oPcONN^^ltON Ptejf ^U !••SS'^.^56 . ]. 25:61 f|si)Ft'•7•5sA 60U-tXJM"-saE!-U—t.1.1,./r-tj^7LOT 43:,SOO SqFi-t.0T42m}-^^g.A=f—.«nLLOT 44y ^,t=.1.9rCDin.-]i"U •-1!=—k r-p o oj q-Ill0 CLZJIHpSqF.€s•tu^IUA ...W^-^^/ss%c| ^.'W^SiSa^ay.^lin ^ \\ ^yj--—YIfJ.W'Tl'TSTRS'i Sq^:1I { 0 C=3 0•!s®'°°^U»||hss€ft=\ II\ !S i I c3j-i__rj \ I•s.no a1'IEcaaoffiEco3BTT3J0 \\C=3 <==i C=3 0 €3n I " n n.,_] L-=4— I I! i.—-—-—i i—,—JILOT 48,W9.
