2 Resolution on MX Missile System

4 To the President of the United States of America and to the
5 Honorable Congressional Delegation from the State of
6 Montana:
7 We, the members of the Bozemun City Commission of the State of
8 Hontana, most respectfully represent as follows:
9 rmEREAS, the unleashing of nuclear weapons in warfare would cause
10 ! untold death, suffering and destruction; and

11 'WHEREAS, the residents of Bozeman have charged this governing
12 body with planning for the city's future and that basing the
13 MX missile in our state jeopardizes the survival of future
I
14 ' generations by posing a significant threat to the health and
15 safety of citizens of Montana and of the United States; and
16 ! WHEREAS, the continued development, testing and production of
17 nuclear weaponry and related delivery systems increase
18 distrust and apprehension among nations as well as the
19 potential magnitude of any international conflict; and
20 WHEREAS, governmental spending for nuclear weaponry and related
21 delivery systems would be spent more wisely in peaceful
22 pursuits,

23 I THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Bozeman City Commission:
INOW,

24 (1 ) That the proposed MX missile system not be developed or
25 deployed in the State of Montana or any other part of
26 the United States of America;

27 (2) That there be no further testing, development or
28 deployment of nuclear weapons by any nation; and
29 (3 ) That the funds that would have been used for this
30 I purpose be transferred to peaceful, non-nuclear use.
