Captain Alfred E. Anderson began his career with the City of Bozeman in 1923 and retired 22 years later with a monthly benefit arr~ounting to $86.15. In order to be eligible for retirement and benefits, an officers must work at least twenty years. In some cases, an officer would leave prior to serving twenty years due to medical or disability reasons and would still receive a pension. Of the 29 Police Officers to retire from the Bozeman Police Department eight were for a medical or disability. Prior to starting my law enforcement career in 1972, nine officers had retired from active service with the Bozeman Police Department. I have had the pleasure of working with 19 officers who retired during my 25 years of service. Of these 19 officers that I worked with, three have since died. I have attended many retirement dinners over the past 25 years and each retirement party was special in it's own way. The memories that will always be retained, the working together on night shiflts and on holidays ,the trust that was developed, the friendships that materialized are all valued. These officers were there to back me up on calls, they were my teachers, and most important they are my friends. I will always be grateful to them. Retired Officers ' Alfred E.
