Message: I am writing strongly object to re-instituting parking meters in downtown Bozeman. As a 35
year resident, I remember with disdain when Bozeman had them. I avoided downtown at all costs. They
were removed for good reason---to promote the health and viability of downtown businesses. Why
would anyone wish to reverse that now? Is this simply an opportunistic move now that the mall is no
longer a viable competitor given the propensity for internet shopping? Why would we encourage
Bozeman residents and visitors to shop elsewhere by making parking inconvenient particularly when the
businesses are already suffering due to the prevalence and fingertip convenience of online shopping? I
note that the parking garage is almost always full these days. Build another. Certainly one could pay to
have a "parking monitor" downtown scrutinizing the 2 hour rule at less expense than the cost of
purchasing and installing the many parking meters that would be required!
