ORDINANCE NO. 890
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE MOVEMENT OF VEHICLES OVER-
TAKING AND MEETING A SCHOOL BUS WHICH IS STOPPED OR PRE-
PARING TO STOP ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN,
MONTANA, AND PROVIDING FOR ACTUATION OF AMBER FLASHING
LIGHTS AND RED FLASHING LIGHTS BY SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONTI,ICT HEREWITH; DECLARING THAT AN EMERGENCY EXISTS
AND PROVIDING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE
IMMEDIATELY UPON PASSAGE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA;
Section 1. The Driver of a vehicle upon the streets within the corporate limits of the
City of Bozeman, Montana, upon meeting or overtaking, in either direction, any school bus which
has stopped or is preparing to stop on the street for the purpose of receiving or discharging
school children shall stop his vehicle before reaching said bus when there is in operation on
said bus a visual signal as specified in section 32-21-132, Revised Codes of Montana as amended
by Chapter 250 of the 1965 Session Laws, and said driver shall not proceed until such school bus
resumes motion or is signaled by the school bus driver to proceed as the visual signals are no
longer actuated, Amber flashing lights shall be actuated by the driver approximately one-hundred
and fifty (ISO) feet before the bus is stopped to receive or discharge school children. Red
lights shall be actuated by the driver whenever but only whenever such vehicle is stopped on the
street for the purpose of receiving or discharging school children.
Section 2. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 3. It is hereby declared that an emergency exists and it is necessary for the
preservation of health and safety that this ordinance become immediately effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the affirmative and unanimous vote of all members of the City Commission
of the City of Bozeman, Montana, at a regular session thereof, held on the 24th day of December,
1969.
