HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-22-16 Public Comment - I .McIntosh - Kagy ReconstructionI am writing regarding the reconstruction of Kagy Boulevard. I have been driving or biking on Kagy at least twice a day for the last 15 years. I know the street very well. Please do NOT make Kagy a five lane street like 19th. Five lanes, and the accompanying speeds, simply would not be appropriate on Kagy, and would cause serious damage to the nearby neighborhoods. Given the number of students that now walk across Kagy on daily basis, five lanes would be very dangerous and could cost lives. I do welcome reconstruction and 3 lanes. A left hand turn lane for drivers traveling east and turning left onto 7th is essential. Please also install bike lanes and sidewalks that are separated from the vehicle traffic. Anyone that bikes, walks, or runs Kagy knows that separation is an important safety feature as nearly every driver seems to be checking his/her smartphone while driving. A separate bike lane will encourage bike use, decrease vehicle traffic, and cut down on pollution. Before reconstruction is started, however, another east/west street must be punched through from South 3rd to 19th. If Kagy is shut down due to construction before this happens, the traffic will be a nightmare. Thank you for your consideration. Please contact me if you have any questions.
