HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-15-16 Public Comment - K. Baer - Kagy ReconstructionTo Whom it may Concern:
I am the owner of Postal Annex, a business located at the intersection of Kagy and Wilson. As
such the design and implementation of the Kagy redesign will have a large direct impact upon
my business. My two biggest concerns are access and egress to my place of business and vehicle
speed. When I have watch traffic in my business complex it seems it is fairly evenly split
access/egress from all directions and road ways. It is important to me that any design allow for
cross traffic turns into the shopping center at 270-290 Kagy Ave.
In line with my goal of keeping speeds down and improving pedestrian/bicyclist safety, I prefer a
3 lane option with protected bike lanes. Kagy runs through the heart of of a college campus
which by it's nature is a pedestrian crowd. Additionally, mass transit and increase bike access
are a necessary and prudent component of Bozeman's overall development. A 3 lane option
would alleviate many of the current congestion issues (LH turns at Kagy/7th) while keeping
speeds lower and allowing room for protected bike lanes. Furthermore, protected bike lanes
could be removed at a later date allowing inexpensive conversion to 5 lanes.
I would also like to see a traffic circle at Kagy and Wilson. It seems traffic flow through
Kagy/Wilson is relatively evenly split across the four directions of travel. A traffic circle allows
for more fluid traffic flow as well as increased pedestrian safety. Finally, I would like to see
regular and prompt communication about the construction. I understand that this project is
necessary, however I would like to minimize the impact it has on my business. Good
communication will go a long way in this regard.
Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. Please add me to any mailing lists regarding
this construction project. If you would like to talk further I am available.
Sincerely,
Karl Baer
