AN ORDINANCE RELA'rING TO SALE, S'rORAGE, DISTRIBU'rION AND INSPEC'rION OF
MEAT OR MEAT PRODUC'fS: REQUIRING 'rHA'f ALL MEATS OR MEAT PRODUCTS OFFERED
FOR SALE, DISPLAYED FOR SALE OR SOLD BY ANY PERSON OR SERVED COMMERCIALLY
WITHIN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, SHALL BE INSPECTED: PROVIDING PENAL-
TIES FOR THE VIOLA TION OF THIS ORDINANCE: AND ESTABLISHING THE EFFECTIVE
DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN. STATE OF MONTANA:
I Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana, hereby determines
that it is for the best interests of the health and general welfare of the inhabitants
of the City of Bozeman, Montana, that all meat or meat products, as herein defined, of-
fer e d for s ale, displayed for sale, sold or served commercially by any person in the City
of Bozeman, shall bear the official stamp, emblem or legend of the State Livestock San-
i tary Bo ard, of the State of Montana, or of the U~ed States Department of Agriculture.
Section 2. For the purpose of this ordi~ance, the following words, phrases, names
and terms shall be construed respectively to mean:
( a) Animals. Cattle, Calves, sheep, swine and goats;
(b) Carcass. All parts, including viscera, of a slaughtered animal that are capable
of being used for human food;
( c) Meat. The flesh of all edible parts capable of being used for human food and
consumption, of cattle, calves, sheep, swine and goats; ,

( d) P.orson. A natural person, partnership, corporation or other organization and
every officer, agent and employee thereof, and the singular shall include the plural as
the case may be;
I Section 3. From and after the effective date of this ordinance it shall be unlawful
for any person to offer for sale, display for sale or sell any meat or meat products as
herein defined, which does not bear the ltifficial stamp, emblem or legend of either the
State Livestock Sanitary Board of the State of Montana or of the United States Department
of Agriculture, or shall any meat or meat products be served commercially unle ss the
whole of such portions served was a part of meat or meat products which bore the official
stamp, emblem or legend of the State Livestock Board or of the United States Department
of Agriculture. All of such meat or meat products bearing such official stamp, emblem
or legend must have been inspected by beterinarians authorized to so inspect and place
the official stamp, emblem or legend thereon by either the State Livestock Sanitary Board
or the Utited States Department of Agriculture, and inspected and approved in accordance
with their respective rules and regulations and in conformity with the State and Federal laws.
Section 4. 'fhe Sanitary Inspector of the City-County Health Department of the C lty
of Bozeman and the County of Gallatin shall, after the effective date of this ordinance,
inspect all establishments within the City of Bozeman offering for sale, displaying for
I sale or selling meats or meat products to the public, either wholesale or retail, and
places of commercial consumption of meat or meat products to insure that only meat and
meat products bearing accepted and approved inspection lep;end are stored, kept, sold,
distributed, processed or otherwise handled by such establishments, and such Sanitary
Inspector, or his deputies, are hereby authorized and directed, under the authority
hereof, to enter and inspect any of the above mentioned establishments at any time.
Section 5. The general rules and regulations of the Montana Livestock Sanitary
Board governing the preparation, process lng, storage, or other handling or disposition

of any product, coming within the general scope and purview of this ordinance, shall
be and hereby are adopted for the conduct and guidance of meat inspection within the
channels of trade of the City of Bozeman.
Section 6. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance, or any
of the rules, regulations or orders properly issued thereunder, upon conviction shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not to exceed I'
$300.00 or imprisonment for a period of not more than three months, or both such fine
and imprisonment, at the discretion of the Court.
Section 7. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed.
Section 8. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon the expiration
of thirty (30) days from and after its passage and approval.
Adopted at a regular meeting of the City Commission of The City of BOzeman held
this 7th day of November, 1951.
