Position/Locatiou of PatieDt: Sitting on the floor upon our arrival. Ambulance was present upon
our arrival.
Complainf/Problem:
We arrived on scene at Hapner Hall on the MSU Campus and were attempting to assist Halls Ambulance
with patient treatment when the Director for the Sight Impaired Workshop barged into the room and ordered
us to step aside and discontinue patient care. We attempted to communicate to the Director what our duties
and responsibilites were but this did not satisfy biJn. The Director became more and more agitated and
refused to leave upon our request to do so. MSU Police officer Frank Lessley attempted to remove the
Director from the room and the Director became enraged and violent. The Director punched and kicked and
uttered constant profanities at all the emergency personnel present. Firefighter Kurt Bushnell and EMS
Provider Greg Halls assisted Officer Lessley in subduing the Director as Officer Lessely needed help and no
other Police personnel were present. I called for assistance on the radio and explained our situation to
dispatch. Bushnell, Halls and Lessley were eventually able to handcu1f the Director and remove biJn.from
the room. Officer Jason Becker of the City Police Department arrived shortly thereafter and helped Officer
Lessley remove the Director from the building. 'Ibroughthe entire event the Director yelled and screamed
profanities and threats at all emergency personnel present. I would like to note here that the Director tried. to
imply that we were treating and transporting the patient against her will. We asked the patient on several
occasions if she wanted to refuse treatment. She statedtbat she "wasn't sure. " She did not ever tell or ask. us
to discontinue treatment. All present were witnesses to that fact.
