State University to a report of smoke on the 5th floor. On arrival1ire1ighters
found a malfuntioning centrifuge. M.S.U. electricians were called to identify
the source of the problem. Later it was reported that a overheating coil caused
the problem.

Incident Narrative: The Bozeman Fire Department responded to the 500 block of North Perkins to
a report of a structure fire. On arrival they found an old unfinished three story
residentual structure with a couch complet1y involved on the top level. The
fire was quickly extinguished and overhauled. An investigation of the fire
scene and talking to nearby residents indicated that someone had been in the
structure earlier and had possible accidently discarded a cigarette. Further
investigation will take place.

Incident Narrative: The Bozeman Fire Department responded to the 200 Block of East Mendenhall
when dispatch reported a vehicle fire at that location. They found that the
owner plus another person on the scene had extinguished the fire with two
portable fire extinguishers. Consequently the damage was light compared to
what it could have been. After investigating and taJki:ng to the owner it was
found that a leaking carburetor was the cause of the fire.

fire at the county landfill at Logan. Prior to our arrivia1 we were learned
through Manbatten I.e. that the product involved was black powder.
Upon our arrivial we learned that the landfill personnel were in the
process of disposing of 3,648 lb. of class C explosives in the form of
fireworks. The fireworb ignited under a bulldozer causing sever bums
to the operator. He was later ftownto the Salt Lake Burn Center. We
contered with Manbatten lC. and detrmined that the situation was under
control and were released from the scene.

insure there was no fire hazard. Ajuction box had overheated and created a
small volume of smoke due possibly to an excessive draw from air
conditioning units or an improper connection. The breaker fuctioned. properly
and cut the flow of electricity before Firefighters arrived. A licensed electrician
was called to fix the problem.

Fire Originated In -Spread to: Call was recieved that there was a 150 gallon fuel spill as the resuIt of a
MY A, logging truck vs. mail carrier Subaru. Upon arrival it was
determined that there was about 10 gallons of cnmltcase oil and 8 to 10
gallons of diesel fuel that bad been spilled over a large area. Timothy L.
Roark from the Gallatin County Health Dept. arrived on the scene and
was advised of the situation. Mr. Roark saw no need to get involved and
left the scene.
Caused by: This incident was caused by an overturned logging truck that 1eaked approximately 20
gallons of fuel and motor oil into an open field.

brothers were removing a hot tub and were unaware of the gas connection.
The gas line was broken, causing a substantial gas leak: next to the building.
Firefighters shut off the gas at the meter and told the occupants that Montana
Power would have to be contacted to turn the gas back on.

attempted. to change a fuel filter in his vehicle along the road side. About

incidents in progress at the time of this call

Bozeman Fire Department personnel arrived they found a grass area of about
SO' X ISO' burning. They quickly extinguished the fire and then investigated
the situation. People on the scene said that they saw two teenagers in the area
just before the fire. It was believed that they had been smoking.

No. 7th. & Griffin. On arrival Fire personnel found that the fire in the sign
had been extingaished with two ABC extinguiShers by employees of a near by
business; The Rivers Edge. The fire department used a pump can to extinguish
a small grass fire that rcmainedjust below the sign. Investigation revealed no
known cause for the fire.
