BACKGROUND: This Council has two positions that expired on February 1, 2016. The Clerk’s office has received two re-applications and two new applications from applicants. The creation and appointment of an Economic Development Council was recommended and described in the Economic Development Plan adopted by the City Commission on August 3, 2009. In February, 2010, the seven member Council was appointed. Shortly thereafter, the Council brought forward Ordinance No. 1784 adding Chapter 2.86 of the Bozeman Municipal Code for the official creation of the Economic Development Council and establishing the duties and responsibilities thereof. Council members shall serve three year staggered terms. I retired as the Director of MMEC after nearly 14 years and was fully engaged in economic development in Montana with a focus on manufacturing. I served on the Montana Economic Development Council that 407 established the Certified Economic Development Districts, am a past national president of the University Economic Development Association, a member of MEDA and a Montana Ambassador. I have served on the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) advisory board, and on the SBDC advisory board. I have served on the EDC since its inception, and seek another term in order to provide continuity through the development 409 and approval of a revised Economic Development Plan. I have a passion for economic development, and its strategic impact on the overall community. I have extensive experience with land use planning, entrepreneurship, and public affairs. I have enjoyed working with City leaders to advance the economic impact of Bozeman's initiatives. However, prior to moving, I graduated from the Leadership program in my previous county. It was an honor to complete the program and see the inner-workings of that county. The result is that I now have a greater desire 411 to serve my community. What I bring to the table is a new perspective. It's clear that many locals are resistant to the growth Bozeman is experiencing. However, if a community is not growing and thriving, it is very likely dying. So, the challenge is to grow in a way that is attractive to new people, but doesn't alienate longstanding citizens. Also, a diversified economy and solid job creation are a must. How this all transpires is fascinating to me, and I believe my skills are well- suited to this type of position. I have worked for several businesses around Bozeman and I have exposed myself to a variety residents. I currently work 413 with many businesses within Bozeman and Gallatin County at large. Through my work, I am very familiar with many of the factors that can keep businesses from starting in Bozeman, especially at the front end. I work hard to bring an objective, level-headed point of view to the table.
