SUBJECT: Appointments to the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory
Board MEETING DATE: January 4, 2016

RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to appoint Tuli Fisher to an at-large position on the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board with a term ending June 30, 2017.
BACKGROUND: There are currently eight vacancies on this board with one new applicant.
The City Clerkâs office is recommending that the new applicant be appointed to a term ending June 30, 2017.
The Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board was created under Chapter 2, Article 5, and
Division 6 of the Bozeman Municipal Code. This chapter is designed as a measure to establish a local historic preservation program designed to promote the preservation of historic and prehistoric sites, structures, objects, buildings, and historic districts by addressing historic preservation issues
at the local level and integrating them into local, state, and federal planning and decision-making
processes. The historic preservation program includes identification, evaluation, and protection of
historic resources within the city (Ordinance No. 1180, Section 2, 1985). The Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the City
Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Commission, and other staff members or boards seeking
advice on historic preservation issues (Ordinance No. 1454, Section 2, 1998; Ordinance No. 1180,
Section 3, 1985). Members are appointed to staggered two-year terms. It is to be comprised of up to fifteen members:
(1) Three or four professional members with professional expertise in the disciplines of history,
planning, archaeology, architecture, architecture history, historic archaeology, or other history preservation-related disciplines, such as cultural geography or cultural anthropology, provided,

however, that at least one member shall be an architect holding Montana or NCARB registration;
(2) Two to four members from historic districts;
(3) One member from the Main Street commercial district, who "shall operate a business or own
property in the neighborhood described as Main Street"; (4) Four to six at-large representatives.
Residence within the City shall not be a prerequisite for professional members or at-large
representatives. This board is considered advisory, although it is generally responsible for
overseeing the operation of the Historic Preservation Office. This board currently has eight vacancies and one applicant.

Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences. *: I've served on the
BHPAB in the past, I'm familiar with the role of the advisory board and some of the ongoing
challenges faced. Im a graduate of MSU with a BA in history and a minor in museum studies. I
have a strong interest in historic preservation as it relates both to residential/commercial

structures, historical traditions of Bozeman, and also history education and outreach. Ive some
experience in conservation work in a museum setting. I've lived in the cooper park historic
district since 2000 and just finished an entire rebuild/historic renovation of our home at 409
south 5th Ave.
