Subject: Bozeman Pond Park Expansion Site Plan and Variance - File Z15073
City Commissioners,
I am writing to voice support for the requested variance to Section 38.24.010.A.1 BMC, allowing
improvements to be made to the Bozeman Pond Park Expansion project prior to construction of
both Fowler Ave. and Pond Row road improvements.
As an adjacent neighbor to the property for the past 35 years, I believe that these road
improvements would be, not only costly to taxpayers, but unnecessary at this time. The traffic
flow has not reached the level that would require the widening of Fowler Ave. and would create
a more dangerous and difficult crossing situation for local neighbors, park users, and school
children. These improvements, when warranted, should be made in conjunction with the future
extension of Fowler Ave. to the north.
I would, however, encourage the planting of trees along the western boundary of the park
property in preparation of the the Fowler Ave. widening. When Fowler Ave. is widened, most all
of the Cottonwood trees currently buffering the park, and providing shade and bird habitat, will
be removed. Knowing this, we should proactively plan and act accordingly to preserve to current
nature of the park.
Thank you for your consideration.
