It is imperative to preserve that character, and I believe the current NCOD guidelines do a good job of that. The remodels and additions that have happened within current parameters are fine. But a repeat all over town of what happened where the God-awful empty Pizza Hut now stands would be unconscionable. Not only would the neighborhood go downhill, Bozeman's reputation would go downhill. Some parts of the older section of Bozeman are already losing character because houses are changing from one or two household buildings to rentals for many students. Those of us in that area are paying taxes that are commensurate with the older character, not with what's happening now. Relaxing the codes will make this chasm even greater. Growth and development are important, but they are not the only important things. The integrity of these neighborhoods is also important. Please take this into consideration and keep the historic districts and their guidelines
