HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-04-2013 Bicycle Advisory Board MinutesBozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board (BABAB) Meeting Minutes: Wed, Sept 4, 2013 6-8 pm, Commissioner’s Room, City Hall Board Members Present: Bill Cochran, Rebecca Gleason, Nonnie Thompson, Kirk Ahlberg, Brian Hughes, Petra Davis, Jason Delmue, Frances Cronin, Jenna Fallaw Board Members Absent: Sam Heraldson, Mike Davis Other Attendees: John Vandelinder A. Called meeting to Order B. Public Comment: John V: Mike Delaney will talk to board in the next year to get bike/pedestrian feedback about proposed new subdivision roads off east of Cottonwood with 90 degree parking. John will let board know when he wants to get on agenda. The board looked at letter of complaint written that was received by city. Police will respond. Does BABAB want to draft a response? Nonnie drafted letter for Chronicle addressing bikers about bike safety and the rules of the road. C. Approved August meeting minutes. D. Bike Count – Tuesday Sept 10 through 12, 2013. Forms will be sent out by Sat. There are still slots open. Monday 7-8 pm will be a question/answer session w/Petra & Brian at City Hall. E. Transportation Alternatives (formerly CTEP) – application due September 6th – update and BABAB support letter – Rebecca. Three projects are being proposed: 1) A sidewalk connection from the Laurel Glen subdivision to the Meadowlark School 2) A shared use path on Huffine between Cottonwood & South Fowler 3) Funding for a Multimodal Transportation Coordinator in Bozeman F. Bike Safety Outreach/Education– * Bike to downtown restaurant Tues. Sept. 10th- Brian 13 locations are participating. Info is on Facebook. Frances will update Facebook pg. with new locations participating. Coordinate with bike benefits and hold monthly were ideas for ongoing dates. * Film update – none. * High School Drivers Education: Can bike safety curriculum be incorporated into a test? Can Francis or another high school student help present? Feedback was given to try to get presentation earlier in the cycle of classes. OPI will look at our presentation to further promote to more students. * Bike safety – meeting with MSU police August 19th update: Petra and Rebecca. They seemed very open and had ideas to promote awareness. * Chronicle article ideas for fall – Nonnie will submit next week. G. Update on N. 19th pathway gaps (s. of Rawhide Ridge Court) Bill/Jason – Letter regarding CTEP funding to City has been sent out. H. New business * New high school member – Frances Cronin – welcome! We brainstormed high school student outreach/engagement ideas. Francis will talk to mountain biking and road bike club for additional support. Brian suggested students becoming involved with the bike kitchen as well for volunteer hours. * Discussed combining BABAB w/ PTS committee. We could send a representative from bike board to committee meeting and vice versa. John and Bill have attended meetings in the past. I.
