Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board (BABAB)
Meeting Agenda, Wed, August 7, 2013
6-8 pm, Commissioner’s Room, City Hall
Board Members Present: Rebecca Gleason, Nonnie Thompson, Kirk Ahlberg, Brian
Hughes, Sam Heraldson, Petra Davis, Jason Delmue, Mike Davis, Jenna Fallaw

A. Called meeting to order
B. Public Comment: None C. July meeting minutes approved
D. Bike Count – Tuesday Sept 10 - 12, 2013. 5-7 pm at 15 intersections. Coordinator:
Rebecca, Co-coordinator: Petra. Volunteers sign up on Sign-up Genius, We will try to
get each volunteer to sign up for 2 shifts , a few board members should be avail for
fill-in. Email your availability to Rebecca and Petra
E. Bozeman Community Transportation Safety Plan update. John V. –First one is
completed. BABAB would like to stay involved with this committee.
F. Transportation Alternatives (formerly CTEP) – application due September 6th –
BABAB priorities/recommendations? It is a competitive application. Meeting is set up
with Rebecca & Craig Woolard, Director of Public Works to make recommendations
for city to apply. Ideas: Planning: half-time bike/pedestrian coordinator.
Implementation of Bike Lane & Boulevard and Bicycle Infrastructure Priorities.
Intersections to make safer for bikes(such as pavement markings, bike boxes, radar or
cameras to detect bicycle): Willson & Kagy, 23rd & Main, 7th & Oak. Email
suggestions to Rebecca asap.
G. Bike Safety Outreach/Education
* Bike to downtown restaurant Tues. Sept. 10th follow up. Brian. 12 restaurants
confirmed. Up to 24 possible. Will be posted on Facebook Page, Bozone article, list
serves.
* Film update – Brian. No new information as of yet. Brian will be meeting with
potential student.
* High School Drivers Education – update on August 2nd presentation (Petra and
Kirk)
It went well overall. Great introduction from instructor. 80 kids attended. Classes will
resume in Sept/Oct.
Can we spread to other schools in Livingston, Belgrade? Funding?
* Bike safety – meeting with MSU police set up for August 19th 9 am at Campus
Police Station. Petra: Mark LaChapelle very enthusiastic. They are adopting a cop on
a bike program. They will incorporate in safety talk with students after freshman
orientation. Fliers on share the road can be distributed. Good Neighbors Group: wants
to provide education on bike safety. League of American Bicyclists?
* Chronicle/Exponent article/PSA’s(Kirk), radio shows. Ideas for fall: intersections,
driver’s education, and bikes in traffic are topics Nonnie is working on.
H. Ideas for BABAB booth at Kid’s corner Bogert Farmers market Sept 10. Kirk: Last
booth was challenging b/c kids were very young, didn’t seem effective. Kirk will
cancel upcoming booth.
I. N. 19th pathway gaps Bill/Jason – update on letter regarding CTEP funding to City.
Bill & Jason are drafting letter about BABAB supporting putting in N. 19th pathway
improvements and radar at Deadman’s Gulch/19th. This will go to Craig Woolard.
BABAB voted on sending letter and it was approved.
J. New business
* New high school member – Frances Cronin – welcome! Brainstorm high school
student outreach/engagement ideas so that we can give her some ideas/goals to work
on. She might have some good ideas as well. Rebecca will contact her.
* City provisions: There is a code that reads bikers “shall use bike path”. We should
make sure we know exactly what this means. Is it the safest option for bikers in all
situations? What if you are taking a left turn? Can we remove or change it? Jason will
email code to board & we will talk about next meeting.
K. Old business
* Bogert Park Permanent Bike Rack and Temporary bike racks: No Action
* FTA state of good repair funds: No Action
