Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board (BABAB)
Meeting Minutes, Wed, July 3, 2013
6-8 pm, Commissioner’s Room, City Hall
Board Members Present: Bill Cochran, Nonnie Thompson, Jen Petersen
Jenna Fallaw, Rebecca Gleason, Jason Delmue, Petra Davis, Brian Hughes

A. Called meeting to Order
B. Public Comment: None C. Approved June meeting minutes .
D. Thank You Cards for Bike Week. Board members divided up cards to send.
E. Bogert Park Permanent Bike Rack and Temporary bike racks –follow up. John V. showed
board some racks/prices. Jason talked about another bike rack-hanger like w/triangles. Not sure
where to purchase those? John will check into more options from welders for portable horseshoe
type.
F. Bozeman Community Transportation Safety Plan update. John V.: No updates
G. Outreach/Education film ideas. Reviewed purpose: Brian and Rebecca
* 3-5 minute videos, 30 second and 5-10 second PSAs to promote bike swap, bike week,
bike/motorist safe behavior/respect, hyalite biking, trail system. Interview interesting people that
bike & tell how folks can get involved that could be shown on local tv (KTVM) , Bozeman Film
Festival(Bill will talk to Bill Costigan/Poindexter Audio/Video), Ellen(Pecha Kucha: Nonnie
will contact), MSU: Procrastinator Theatre & other MSU events
* Brian talked to MSU film dept: It would be a great project for one graduate student. Could be a
full year project. Not sure of cost but could be approx. $500.
* Potential Funds: bike shop sponsorships, ASMSU, GVLT, GVBC
* Purpose: Inspire people who drive most of the time to consider biking for some trips
Promote good health, safety & a clean environment
Raise awareness of local bicycling projects and opportunities

H. Bike to downtown restaurant in July or August follow up. Brian talked to 6 businesses & they
are ok with offering discount. 15% off entrees all day. Nova, Cateye, Open Range, Bistro so far.
Rebecca will pass on email for Downtown Association to get word out. Potential date: Tue Sept
10th
I. Ideas for BABAB booth at Kid’s corner Bogert Farmers market Sept 10. Tabled until next
month.
J. FTA state of good repair funds – matching funds 10% ($2400). Rebecca will come up with
plan to present to board. She will talk to businesses in Belgrade & Bozeman about matching
funds.
K. Update on N. 19th pathway gaps (s. of Rawhide Ridge Court) Brian: None right now.
L. Update on incorporating bicycle safety education into MSU freshman orientation: Petra. It is
still a work in progress. Petra talked to MSU police about how they can incorporate bike
safety/education into their program. She will follow up with them.
M. City budget meeting update: John V.: City added new position for signs/signals to catch up
on marking. We might need more education on sharrows: sharing the road, both bike & cars use
the lane. Board can create something for radio/website. Put in Chronicle: “What’s Up With
That?” Nonnie will contact Chronicle. Rebecca will write bullet list & send to board for
approval.
Other updates: Engineering didn’t approve sharrows to be in each lane on S.23rd. How can we
mark the intersection to improve bike safety? Installing a bike boxes was one idea?
When we replace bike route signs: Should we use the term boulevard? Add sharrow to signs?
N. New Business:
Upcoming training in Helena. Winning Campaigns Training. Sept 13-15. Rebecca is planning on
going & thinks it would be beneficial for BABAB members to attend. She will send link with
more info.
Ethics training: We will try to plan for a BABAB meeting Oct/Nov.
Does anyone want to help S.L.A.M. with bike valet on Sweet Pea Weekend? Let Rebecca know
if you can help out.
CTEP funds left over. Jason & Bill will draft a letter about using funds for 19th.
