D. Bogert Park Permanent Bike Rack and other ideas. Guest: Salal McGee‐ Head of Bogert Farmers
Market
Bike valet parking at SLAM: Currently bike companies have been donating bike racks for event
Suggested Project #1: Bogert Park: Replace wooden stumps (barriers for motorists)around
bandshell w/ artsy barriers to keep cars out and serve as bike racks. Metal Arches are $4‐800
online. Jen has connections with metal workers. Call to artists? This could maybe be paid for
partially with Park Improvement Grant next summer. Get sponsors to purchase bike racks?
BABAB funds?
Project #2: Portable bike racks from City for special events (Sweet Pea Festival, Music on Main
etc…). User groups could rent from City or from rental companies. Paid for by: Business
sponsors? BABAB funds from infrastructure? Has to get approved by Parks and Recreations and
the Police Department.
Concerns: Portable bike racks: What if someone leaves a bike? Do we want to allocate BABAB
funds towards bike parking?? Cost analysis of permanent versus temporary bike racks and
whether the portable racks would actually get used should be done before trying to get
approval of project
Subcommittee Kirk will try to attend an upcoming Parks/Recreation Board Meeting. 2nd
Thursday of every month at 7 pm at the Lindley Center
Bike Benefits ticket sales/coordination: Farmers market, NECO, some businesses & BABAB selling
stickers. Ideas to promote: banner, link from city website
E. Bozeman Community Transportation Safety Plan update. John V. – pertinent updates: None
F. FTA state of good repair funds –Bicycle Transit integration
Rebecca: We have funds to use to improve Streamline/Skyline stops. MSU students did a study to see
which places most needed improvements. Belgrade/Livingston locations the bike racks are almost
always full and there is only room for 3 bikes on front rack. Ideas: bike racks at stops and/or pilot bike
lockers which could be reserved for a month.
Matching funds: from the city or businesses??
Rebecca will submit recommendations and matching grant money options.
G. Update on N. 19th pathway gaps (s. of Rawhide Ridge Court) : Brian Hughes absent. We will address
next meeting
H. BABAB booth at Kid’s corner Bogert Farmers market Update June 4th and Sept. 10th
Kirk shared ideas from last meeting with Taylor Lonsdale and Carrie Gaffney who are heading up booth.
Should be all set except we have to gather BABAB info sheets & bike maps for booth
I.Driver's Ed program/ Bicycle Rules
Nonnie updated board on last presentation. She coordinated curriculum with OPI materials. New
power point, 3 videos, quiz & pic’s of bike week. Presentation went well. The class runs 5X/yr.
BABAB can take turns presenting in pairs. Next class is May/June.
Other ideas for education:
Send out PSA’s for adult bike education. Short blurbs could be sent out to remind folks of things
such as sidewalk laws, etc.
Write article for Montana parent magazine. Nonnie said that she would write one for them &
continue with Chronicle.
J. Bike to downtown restaurant July or August
Brian Hughes absent, but we talked about Brian, Rebecca & Jenna getting together to pick date & make
postcard with info. Still need to find out which businesses want to participate. Tuesday night might be a
good night for restaurants.
K Bike to Work Week Planning– May 13‐17th
Bangtail has window display for bike week. Check it out.
Rebecca will send out email to confirm details of each daily stop & the volunteers. She will also look into
alcohol permit & keg donation. Kirk will contact potential server.
Jen will be there early to help coordinate Friday evening bike party. Can a few more folks help out?
L. New business
John V updates:
Sharrows on recommended routes: Pavement conditions do not guarantee quality of thermoplastic to
last 2 years. They are going to use the hot tape. This will take longer but is less expensive.
Willson: Water line going in so it will be a few years out before anything can be put in.
S.23rd: Connection with bike lanes and light will be with the project to widen College in 2014. Rebecca
commented that she does not agree with the delay & John said that he will pass that comment on.
Rebecca: There has been new info./shift in thinking about bike boulevards. It might be better to limit
traffic for cars/make less inviting by incorporating traffic control changes such as one way streets.
Should BABAB re‐evaluate current bike routes? Rebecca will try to organize meeting with Joe Gilpin &
Taylor Lonsdale before next meeting.
Bike friendly signs are being re‐painted and will be back up next month.
Ethics training will be during a meeting time sometime this year. YOU HAVE TO ATTEND OR MAKE UP.
Bike week planning or any other spending: John would prefer buying things instead of us getting
reimbursed.
Meeting in June: Rebecca & Jenna will be absent. Kirk will serve as chair. NEED SOMEONE TO BE
SECRETARY. THANKS SO MUCH!
