D. Bike valet parking at Sweet Pea Festival.
The board discussed factors such as length of the festival & finding enough volunteers, insurance, bike
racks and whether or not folks would actually pay extra to park bikes. Maybe just a donation jar could
be used? We discussed ideas for the future such as BABAB buying portable bike racks to use at events.
As far as this year, the board opted to not take on this endeavor. Sam will contact Mike to tell him this
& recommend that Sweet Pea gets their volunteers and lumber to build bike racks and staff event.
E. March 20 – Bozeman Community Transportation Safety Plan meeting update.
Rebecca, Bill, Jason, John V. and Jen attended. There were 25‐30 attendees & were broken into groups.
The Bike/Pedestrian Safety Group talked about education and awareness and the enforcement of the
laws. The Bike Walk Montana website (www.bikewalkmontana.org) could be a used in more ways such
as recording bike crashes which are currently underreported.
F. Outreach/Education film ideas.
3‐5 minute video and one or two 30 second PSAs. Ideas: to promote bike swap, bike week,
bike/motorist safe behavior/respect, winter biking & gear, inspiring folks that otherwise
wouldn’t bike and benefits of biking in Bozeman such as the Hyalite closure. The video(s) could
be shown on local tv and also maybe at the Emerson before the BFF films & other events. Costs
range of $1000 to $4000 depending on # of interviews, film locations, etc. We might be able to
work with the MSU film department to produce a film for $500. Rebecca will contact them.
Interview interesting people that bike during bike to work week
Discussed purpose of film, budget (potential funding from City, GVBC, other sponsors?).
Brian and Rebecca will work on narrowing down goals of video piece to a one page plan and will
bring to the next meeting.

H. Montana Bike Summit Update from Nonnie
She found the morning sessions fascinating, learning about all the diverse and creative ways Montanans
are nurturing bicycling. There were discussions ‐led by Taylor Lonsdale‐ with educators, parents,
administrators, interested citizens. Many attendees seemed inspired by the info, options and resources
available.
She was thrilled to learn that the MT OPI has put together (and is using) a comprehensive Bike
Awareness program for Driver's Ed kids. We now have the resources they use and will hopefully
streamline our next presentation with more videos and thought‐provoking quizzes.
I. Meeting with City/MDT update on N. 19th pathway gaps (s. of Rawhide Ridge Court) John V.
Gaps are all on private property. Businesses involved: UPS, Yellowstone Bank and Montana
Container. A publicly recorded easement is required. Brian has been in contact with and
will contact businesses to see if we can get verbal approval. The businesses may be willing
to pay for path or at least a private engineering firm to survey all of the properties. The
businesses could get publicity through news coverage.
J. Does BABAB want to organize a “Bike to downtown restaurant” night as part of ongoing outreach in
July or August.
The board liked the idea and talked about possibly offering a 10% discount off of a meal for bikers and
getting the Downtown Association involved to advertise and get the full list of restaurants. Brian will ask
restaurants that he is in contact with at Costco and Jenna & Rebecca will also help with others. Sam will
help advertise with PSA’s.
K. Follow up BABAB booth at Kid’s corner Bogert Farmers market June 4th and Sept. 10th.
Kirk is meeting with the Youth Movement Director of GVBC and will devise a plan & recruit volunteers
through GVBC. Other ideas from board: how do we also engage parents? Include BABAB info sheet &
bike maps at booth, Bike Kitchen can help with bikes. Any other ideas please pass on to Kirk.
L. Driver's Ed program/ Bicycle Rules
BABAB will present again in the April/May class. Committee will look at more resources before class.
