City Commission: John (and others that attended city commission meeting)
The updated Transportation Plan for the Bozeman area is almost ready to go out for bid.
The Transportation System Policy Discussion was presented to the city commission in November. The
report mentions the gaps in and failures of the existing bike and pedestrian networks and options to
address these deficiencies. They discussed using impact fees to complete arterials now instead of
waiting for developers to come in and complete when they develop an area. This practice has resulted
in piecemeal construction and incomplete networks. Recommendations were made regarding bicycle
network improvements by closing gaps and the consideration of city right of way purchases. It also
talked about the installation of sensor cameras for stop lights to pick up bikes in the spring.
Ideas to include in the upcoming striping plan: striping to help with left turns through intersections.
E. Bike Safety Outreach/Education
· Subcommittee on Safety Outreach/Education- Mike. The group met last week to
brainstorm ideas. They talked about the importance of educating the bicyclist first and making
sure they know the rules of the road. They did not yet narrow down how they are going to
proceed with the outreach and education. They will do independent research and meet again
next week.
· Other ideas for outreach: We had contacted MSU film crew in 2013 but it takes 2 years
and $500. Contact Alta? Next meeting, BABAB will get feedback from subcommittee and we
