HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-19-15, Hannon Housing Public CommentGreetings- Please, can we move on from the affordable housing ownership issue in Bozeman. I am 68 years old and still work 7 days a week to afford a home here. My escrow account went up $360 in 2013. This is half of a Social Security payment. I just received notice of another increase this year. Maybe the governments could cut back some spending? This causes increase in the cost of home ownership. When I moved here in the 70's, I could not afford a house. I chose to buy one in Livingston at 60% of the Bozeman price. It took sacrifice and struggle, and a 20 minute commute. Now we have River Rock. I-90 is full coming in from the east every morning. I can not see you spending my money to make changes for people half my age making twice what I make to buy homes they really aren't committed to and choose not to afford. Home buyers must want a home. 25% of people in the USA move annually. The average worker changes jobs every three years. We are a transient population. These moves do not support home ownership. People cannot afford homes today because of personal debt and no savings. Not because of home prices. I believe they do not understand what home ownership means. These statistics are also reflected in the cost of rental properties. Frequent turn over results in less "ownership " in the properties, more damage, and more frequent repairs. Yes, I agree that more lower priced rentals are needed. But how does the city create more trailer parks, modular parks, and basement apartments? Thank you for your time and efforts, Bob Hannon
