Completed bids must acknowledge receipt of this addendum at the appropriate place in the bidding documents. This Addendum generally answers written questions posed by Contractors. Questions are repeated below and are answered in italics. 1. Construction note 23 for a reducer on sheet 7 is called out 3 to 4 times per manifold when the drawings show either 1 or 2 per manifold. Why? A: There is a reducer for every SVE well that enters a manifold. Every manifold has either two or three SVE wells that enter it. 2. Field construction note 1 on sheet 7 refers to a well and lateral installed by others. Does this refer to the lateral off the existing 4” and 6” gas mains? A: With the LFG wells now appended to this contract, the well and lateral are now a part of this contract. The phrase ‘by others’ is removed from this note 1 on sheet 7 and note 1 on sheet 6. 3. How much cover is over the site? Will backfill need to be imported? Who will be responsible for disposing any waste that is excavated? A: See Addendum 2. 4. When will the notice to proceed be issued? A: Hopefully by late November. 5. Will there be a winter shutdown period? A: There will not be an extended shutdown during the winter months. However there will in all likelihood (depending on the severity of the winter) be weather days issued on a day to day basis. 6. Section 01029 1.04 states that no payment will be made for quantity overruns. Does that mean if the quantities exceed the bid item quantities, no payment will be made for overruns? A: That section qualifies the issue of payment for overruns with the statement ‘unless expressly required by the Contract… or authorized ….by the Owner or Owner’s Representative….’ 7. Detail 2 on sheet 10 does not seem to have a bid item associated with it. A: See Addendum 2. That detail is paid under item 8. 8. There are various discrepancies in quantities listed in Section 01029 and the bid sheet for bid items 5, 6, 7 and 8. A: See Addendum 2 which clarifies quantities for these bid items. 9. A well driller has expressed concern regarding the use of bentonite and cement for grout in that it might be difficult to mix and may result in high heat on the casing. Are you open to other ideas? A: No, the bentonite and cement is necessary to get the required seal. 10. I noticed on Plan sheet 9 Typical trench section 7/9 Notes: If waste is encountered during trenching, 6” of clean soil shall be used as pipe bedding. Do this mean 6” below the pipe? Or around the entire pipe? What is the gradation of the clean soil to be used? A: that would be 6” below the pipe. The gradation may be either soil salvaged from excavation of the trench or imported material as described in the standard specifications section 02221 part 2.2 B. 11. In the road crossing, what is the thickness of the existing asphalt, and gravel? A: The thickness of the asphalt and gravel are not known. However, if the question is being asked to determine how to replace cut asphalt, the thickness is immaterial. Replacement of asphalt in the areas where asphalt may be cut (see Addendum 2) is not required. 12. Does the well driller need to be HAZWOPER Certified? Does the any of the workers need to be HAZWOPER Certified? A: No Hazwoper certifications are required. 13. Please define “Weather Day”? A: Weather day is a day which is not counted against the contract duration. Weather days are given when any combination of extreme weather such as heavy rain, snow, cold, wind or other conditions make it difficult or impossible for the Contractor to be reasonably productive. Weather days will be determined by the Engineer on a day to day basis. 14. In looking for pump specifications, are the pumps in the sumps and the wells the same model #QED AP 4B short body pump? A: Yes. 15. For the road crossing at the landfill, when can this be done with respect to civilian traffic? A: Please refer to Addendum 2. 16. Are all of the trenches assumed to be dug to 6’ below native ground? Or are there invert elevations for pipe that I am not seeing? A: the majority of the trenches will be 6 feet below existing ground. In some instances, 6” of bedding must be placed below the pipe resulting in slightly deeper trenches. Also, minimum grades (3%) must be maintained to allow for draining of LFG/SVE pipes. Generally there is enough grade at the site that this is provided without additional trench depth but in some cases a small increase in excavation depth may be required to maintain this grade. 17. Where are we to remove the 240’ of chain link fence on the south side of the landfill property for drilling?, are we able to reuse the top rail and mesh if it is in good shape or do you want it replaced with new? A: Remove fence wherever it is necessary to install the SVE and AI wells and associated piping. Top rail and mesh in good condition may be reused. 18. Section 12800 refers to a secondary containment. How will drain lines from the primary tank be plumbed through the secondary containment. A: Delete all references to secondary containment in Section 12800. A secondary containment tank is not required.
