HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-16-15 Zimmer, Speed Limit Public CommentFriday, October 16, 2015 Mayor Jeff Krauss City Commission Members The Montana Department of Transportation is proposing to set the speed limit on the Bozeman/Belgrade frontage road at 55 MPH between the 45 MPH speed zones at the two ends and has asked the Belgrade Town Council, the Gallatin County Commission, and the Bozeman City Commission for their concurrence with or at least comments on that proposal. The State Transportation Commission is scheduled to act on MDT's proposal at its October 28 meeting. The Belgrade Town Council reportedly voted 3-2 to recommend that the "middle" section of the frontage road be posted at 60, not 55, MPH. The County Commission has informed MDT that it is in concurrence with MDT's proposal. The Bozeman City Commission will be determining its response to the MDT proposal at its October 19 meeting. The Bozeman (Area) Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Committee discussed MDT's proposal at its October 14 meeting. On that extended section between the 45 MPH zones at the termini, PTS unanimously voted to recommend that the speed limit not exceed 55 MPH. PTS is clearly opposed to a speed limit of 60 MPH on any portion of the frontage road. PTS is open to a speed limit below 55 MPH on some or all of that "middle" section of the frontage road. Ralph W.
