We were both raised in this house and have seen many changes along this road over the years that are too numerous to mention. However, one of the changes has been the rise in traffic along with an increase in speed limits as well as accidents. It has been brought to my attention that MDT is considering increasing the speed limit again in this area in early November. I would ask the City of Bozeman to make a recommendation to the MDT to set the speed limit at 45 mph between 7th Avenue and Springhill Road. I travel this part of the road many times a week as my son and his family (consisting of two young sons and another on the way) live in the property I own. When they first moved in to the house, I was so worried about the boys living there because of the way people drive along the road, i.e., speeding and distracted driving. Because there are no turn lanes along this road, we have had many close calls when trying to turn either way in to the driveway, whether coming from Bozeman or from our house on Nelson Road. This area is also a highly used wildlife corridor as well as occasional bicyclists who try and use the road, which has no bike lane and no good shoulders so bicyclists use a portion of the road to travel on. By extending the 45 mph from 7th Avenue by Murdochs to Springhill Road, this would keep an area that has a similar concentration of driveways a little safer. I would also ask that the passing zones on this section of Frontage Road be eliminated so we can safely enter or exit our driveways. Thank you for your consideration.
