After thorough investigation of the residence on the previous call, firefighters could not find any damage caused by the strike other than a smoke detector which we replaced. Ms. Meyers met us at the door and said she had located the smell. Low voltage wiring in their gas log unit had caught fire and melted the insulation. The flexible gas line hooked to the gas regulator had a hole melted in it and was leaking natural gas. Firefighters shut off the gas meter and disconnected the wiring from the appliance. Firefighters then took the liberty to call the plumber that installed the gas log unit and explained the situation to him. He seemed very concerned and assured us that he would be there immediately to fix the gas line and light the hot water heater. Officer in Charge: G. Duntsch Person Making Report: G.
