Speed Study Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Rick Hixson, City Engineer SUBJECT: Frontage Road (P-205) Speed Study AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Action MEETING DATE: October 19, 2015 RECOMMENDATION: Concur with the Findings of the Montana Department of Transportation's (MDT) Speed Study of Frontage Road (P-205) RECOMMENDED MOTION: Having considered public testimony and staff background information, I move that the Bozeman City Commission concur with the MDT recommendations for Frontage Road Speed Limits. BACKGROUND: Upon completion of the East Belgrade Interchange the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) completed a speed study of the Bozeman-Belgrade Frontage Road (P-205). The eastern-most portion of the road, from approximately Springhill Road to the Interstate overpass, is within the Bozeman City limits. The speed limit posted at the present time for this section of P-205 is 50 mph. This interim speed limit was posted during construction of the new interchange and the purpose of this most recent speed study was to establish the permanent limit for this road. MDT's recommendation for the section of P-205 within City Limits is 55 mph. While this recommendation is based primarily on travel speeds, it also considers citation data as well as crash data. UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None. FISCAL EFFECTS: None. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. Attachments: MDT Speed Limit Investigation (5 copies) 254 255 256 257 258 259 260 261
