RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to confirm the Mayoral appointment of one applicant to the Library Board of Trustees with a term ending June 30, 2020. BACKGROUND: One vacancy remains on the Library Board of Trustees and two new
applicants have applied for the position.
The Library Board of Trustees is created under Section 22-1-308 of the Montana Code Annotated and Section 2.56.010 of the Bozeman Municipal Code.: Under Section 2.56.010 of the B.M.C., the Board of Trustees of the Public Library shall be
composed of five persons and shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent
of the Commission, and shall serve without pay. The trustees shall hold their office for the term
of five years, and one trustee shall be appointed annually at the beginning of each fiscal year (July 1) for the term of five years, and until his/her successor is appointed and qualifies. Trustees shall serve no more than two full terms in succession.
They shall have power to select librarians and other employees as they may determine and fix the
amount of any bond which they may require to be given by the librarian and other employees. They shall have power to receive books from all sources for the use and benefit of the library and to purchase books therefore with any money available for that purpose and power to prescribe all
rules and regulations for the use of books and the preservation of the same. The board shall keep
a record of its transactions and shall make a report to the City Commission at the close of each
calendar year, covering the business transacted by it during the year (Ordinance No. 1163, 1984; Ordinance No. 1094 S 1, 1982; prior code S 2.08.200). No residency requirements are contained in either the M.C.A. or the B.M.C. Under state
statutes, this Board is administrative.
The Library Board of Trustees has one vacancy and two applicants seeking appointment.

Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences. *: I am a longtime user of library services and have a keen interest in the future of our systemand how it changes to meet community and social needs. I recently retired and have38 years of government service, with 5 years in Bozeman. I wish to continue toserve my community and would like to be involved in the governance of anorganization that provides so many opportunities and services to our citizens of allages. I have previous experience serving on advisory and governance boards withnon-profits and with the states of Washington and Montana. If you would like
