MEETING MINUTES
JUNE 25, 2015
1) CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Bozeman Climate Partners Working Group was called to order at 2:00 PM on June 25,
2015 in the Gallatin Room, City Hall by Natalie Meyer.

Natalie Meyer, Robin Crough, Heather Higinbotham, Kathy Powell, Jay Sinnott, Susan Bilo
2) CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
Agenda approved as distributed.
3) PUBLIC COMMENT
No public comment.
4) MINUTES
Minutes from May 28, 2015 were approved (delayed until the end of the meeting at 3:45).
5) NON-ACTION ITEMS
FY16 BUDGET UPDATE
• Sustainability budget was approved as requested by Staff and City Manager
• Members asked when we would update Climate Action Plan. There are no immediate plans, but it would
be helpful to include Climate Action Plan goals in larger planning-based document to encourage more
traction.
• Possibility of incorporating it into the UDO rewrite?
FY15 OUTSTANDING ITEMS
• Green fleet still in progress
• Request to transition Bozeman Climate Partners from a Working Group to a permanent Adivsory Board
o Recent City action to eliminate some Advisory Boards is a factor
o Bike Board an example of successful alternative model
Members suggested that we need active city staff because it is a challenge to track all
projects/layers associated with sustainability
o Would be useful to compare to models of Fort Collins, Flagstaff, and Bend, as well as other City of
Bozeman Advisory Boards
Report back at next meeting
• Bilo volunteered to contact Fort Collins. Meyer will contact other cities.
ENERGY SMACKDOWN
• 65 people signed up (approximately half in city limits)
• Monthly emails going out, with customized topics each month
• Platform can track engagement and interaction
• Currently putting together a targeted Facebook campaign for the Smackdown
• Possibility of outreach to Neighborhoods through INC or new Neighborhood Coordinator
BOZEMAN ENERGY PROJECT
• 20 businesses signed up
• Heather recently helped the Co-op complete a LED retrofit
o Cuts lighting use by 50%
o USDA grant awarded
• Additional business engaging include Bozeman Brewing, The Loft, Allegra, Absaroka Energy, Nova, Movie
Lovers
• Some issues when businesses don’t own buildings
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY WORKSHOP – JUNE 3, 2015
• 84 people attended
• Bob Rowe & Mayor announced $3 million in renewable energy projects around the state
o $1 million to Bozeman
PILOT PROJECT(S)
• Committee to focus on this specific project
o City, NorthWestern Energy, MSU
• Additional committee will be formed to discuss larger policy issues
CLEAN UP DAY & SUSTAINABILITY FAIR CHANGES FOR 2016
• 2015 worst weather event has had
• The Solid Waste Divisions has proposed providing Clean Up Kits year round instead of only on the day of
the fair
• Discussion on how to hold Sustainability Fair in general
o Tag along with another event?
o Give to a non-profit?
