EDC Appt Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Pearl Michalson, Deputy City Clerk Stacy Ulmen CMC, City Clerk SUBJECT: Appointment to the Economic Development Council MEETING DATE: July 20, 2015 MEETING TYPE: Action RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to appoint Kris Kumlien to the vacancy that expires February 1, 2018 on the Economic Development Council. BACKGROUND: This Council has one vacancy with a term expiring February 1, 2018 that exists and has been received. The creation and appointment of an Economic Development Council was recommended and described in the Economic Development Plan adopted by the City Commission on August 3, 2009. In February, 2010, the seven member Council was appointed. Shortly thereafter, the Council brought forward Ordinance No. 1784 adding Chapter 2.86 of the Bozeman Municipal Code for the official creation of the Economic Development Council and establishing the duties and responsibilities thereof. Council members shall serve three year staggered terms. Excerpt from the implementation matrix found on page VIII of the Economic Development Plan (EDP): 5. c “Establish an Economic Development Council, consisting of: business leaders, city staff, economic development leaders, and others; to advise the City Commission on economic development issues and to review the implementation of this City of Bozeman Economic Development Plan.” This council has one vacancy with one new applicant applying. I have worked in many different roles and capacities during my time in Bozeman from stints in the non profit world at PERC and Trout Unlimited, to the retail outdoor industry with a successful turnaround story as the GM at Montana Troutfitters from 2006 to 2012, to the airport rental car business with a stop in between as an intern on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. My two degrees are in Finance and Economics and currently I am working as a financial advisor, with many small to mid sized business clients. Most importantly I feel I have a strong financial and business minded background to bring to the council with a rounded perspective from private and public sector work. My lifelong ties within the community would allow me to draw perspective from many other people as well.
