We see countless dog lovers utilize the park every day. And we are pleased to see the City of Bozeman take an active part in expanding and maintaining it. With increased use there are also an increased number of cars in need of a place to park while owners exercise their dogs. We are definitely in support of the proposed expansion of the parking area. With the installation of a proposed new sidewalk leading to the Park, we know many folks will be walking their dogs to the Park. One of the good things about the Park is that it is fenced and the dogs seldom get out of the area. Dogs are free to run and play without impediment in the Park. It does, however, happen that dogs get away from their owners. Just this week we had two mares with baby foals less than a day old in the field across the road from the parking lot. One disobedient dog ran away from its owner and charged the newborn foals and their mothers barking and threatening them. This happened because the owner hadn't yet gotten her dog out of the parking lot and into the fenced dog park. With the installation of a side walk that will encourage more pedestrian traffic with their dogs, what measures are you taking to insure these dogs will remain on the sidewalk? What measures will insure that dogs will not be allowed to harass nearby livestock and game animals? You and I both know that folks are supposed to have their dogs under control by voice command at all times when not on a leash. But that rule is often disregarded;and in the end ineffective. Please include in your planning measures to insure dogs will stay on the sidewalk and not be allowed to roam at will in nearby fields. My suggestion is a fence along the sidewalk just like the one around the dog park to insure no dogs are running loose. Thank you for the opportunity to comment on your proposal. Sincerely, '.I\L^`" • Bob and Sharon Mcllhattan 1700 Manley Road Bozeman, MT 59715
