Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Wendy Thomas, Director of Community Development
SUBJECT: Presentation from community service providers interested in
applying for funding through the Community Development Block Grant from the Montana Department of Commerce.
MEETING DATE: March 23, 2015
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Action
RECOMMENDATION: Listen to Provider presentations.
BACKGROUND: Montana Department of Commerce requires a letter of support from the local
government to accompany applications by local non-profits, non-governmental organizations and
similar community service providers interested in applying for a Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) from the Montana Department of Commerce (MDOC).
The purpose of the presentation of community needs is to identify potential projects with the
highest potential for providing maximum benefit to meet the housing needs of low and moderate
income families in the City of Bozeman. This process is being conducted in an effort to allow the
City Commission and the citizens of Bozeman the opportunity to provide input on an application
that the City will support for the allocation of CDBG funds. In addition, the presentation will comply with MDOC’s requirements for ensuring adequate citizen participation in the selection of
projects. Selected project(s), if any, will be announced during a subsequent meeting of the City
Commission.
FISCAL EFFECTS: No direct financial support will be given to the applicants at this time. In-kind commitments of staff time by the City may be a result of providing support for an
application.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission
