With Bozeman's continued growth, we see lane mileage growing every year. With this growth comes the need for newer and more efficient equipment. Programs like this allow us to keep up with the growing needs of our community without a big increase in expenditures. Priority requests are as follows: 1. Sweeper— Large Mechanical or Broom Bear Sweeper: Because of our winter conditions we use sand in our ice control operations. This is beneficial to the traveling public during icy conditions but also comes with cleanup expenses. We sweep year round which is why mechanical sweepers work best, the less sand and dirt in the streets the cleaner the air. Also, biking is a very popular mode of transportation in Bozeman and we are committed to keeping the bike lanes clean for almost year round travel. This would replace a 2004 Broom Bear six wheel broom street sweeper with conveyor. 2. Sweeper — Large Vacuum Sweeper: Although this is a non-mechanical sweeper it is a vacuum sweeper which would be very beneficial to our sweeping operation. To comply with Storm Water Regulations, we are committed to sweeping all of the streets in Bozeman. This sweeper would not only help in the control of sediment in our storm sewer system but also help considerably with dust control which makes a big difference in the air quality. This would replace a 1999 Freightliner Vac/All Sweeper which is rarely used because the sweeping function is inadequate. 3. Combo Unit—Sander and Deicer: We have other combination units and find them far superior, the benefits of pre -wetting the materials are that the material stays in place and starts to penetrate the ice whereas HOME OF MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY GATEWAY TO YELLOWSTONE PARK straight sand often is blown off by the traffic instead of offering traction assistance. Being able to apply straight liquid in areas cuts down on our cleanup in the spring. This will replace an existing sander/deicer combo unit. We have in our fiscal year 2016 budget the money for our matching share. Keeping Bozeman healthy and clean is a top priority for us, the people visit and reside here need clean air and safe roads. The addition of this equipment to our fleet will help us with that. Thank you for your consideration.
