re: Bridger Center Annexation file A13002
Dear Bozeman City Commission:
I have learned that there is a proposal that you are considering with regards to the taking of a
private park land through eminent domain, which will make way for the development of a wetland
and riparian area adjacent to the East Gallatin River.
For your consideration I am enclosing Montana DEQ -- Montana Wetland Council’s state plan,
“Priceless Resources -- Strategic Framework for Wetland and Riparian Area Conservation and
Restoration in Montana 2013 – 2017.” As the state’s strategic plan, it identifies the overarching state
goal of no loss of net area or quality of existing wetland areas and to maintain, protect and restore
the ecological integrity of riparian areas.
Wetland and riparian areas are typically lost incrementally and continued loss can result in
ecological and economic ramifications. When conserved, these lands contribute positively to water
quality, water quantity, habitat, and flood risk reduction. If my office can be of any assistance in
finding a solution to protect and conserve these sensitive lands, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
Sincerely,
Lynda A. Saul, PWS, CFM
DEQ Wetland Coordinator
