I think it worthy of some public accolades to commend a number of our officers,
as well as the dispatcher who handled the call .
Early last evening dispatch received a call from a female that was literally holding
the gun of her husband as he was trying to kill himself. He was under home
hospice care and essentially was ready to commit suicide to end his life, even if
that meant doing this final act directly in front of his wife.
Dispatch immediately relayed this message to our officers on duty, who responded
to the residence.
A total of 6 officers ultimately responded, entered the home and wrestled the gun
away from this man. Ultimately all weapons were removed from the home and his
long term nurse care provider was called with a long term plan for safety put into
place.
It is tragic that this man was at wit’s end. It would have been worse for his wife
to have witnessed a very violent act of killing oneself with a handgun.
These officers were quick to remove the threat, recognized the need for long term
solutions and saved this man’s life. Their quick actions are a credit to themselves,
the department and to the citizens of Bozeman that they serve.
My thanks to the following officers for their role in this:
Tom Lloyd
Kenzi Schnitgen
Quinn Ellingson
Sergeant Colt Schumacher
Tracy Senenfelder
Lucas Chaffins
