' Loggetl inas Greg I L0909 L `ti Y COMMUNITY IMPACT Information Please answer the questions with as much detail as possible. Have you unsuccessfully reached out to the city for funds to purchase the equipment? We have asked for replacement equipment in past budget years, but as most cities have experienced over the last few years we have less and less to work with when it comes to annual budgets. These budget requests are some of the first cuts that gel made each year. Was there a particular instance where a life would have been positively impacted if you would have had the equipmentavailable? There's potential for this equipment to impact every car accident or building collapse. We ren on nearly 4000 calls annually and any call could be the next call where this equipment could make a significant difference. What positive effects will the equipment specifically have? Please use statistics when possible. This equipment will allow mom resources (Engines/Ladder Truck) in our department to respond with a full complement of rescue tools and struts. We currently cover over 19 square mills of city limits with the 1-90 interstate running through the outer limits or the city. Box 1230 • Bozeman, Montana • 59771-1230 Phone (406) 582-2350 • Fax (406) 582-2355 • TDD (406) 582-2301 Fire Department — Founded in 1884, Bozeman is served by the Bozeman Fire Department which is a full-time career fire department. There are currently 42 uniformed firefighters, fully staffing 3 fire stations, which house 4 engines (1 reserve), 1 ladder truck, 2 brush trucks, 1 HazMat unit, and 1 Medic Unit, The Bozeman Fire Department responded to approximately 3,563 emergency calls in 2013 with numbers increasing each year. Bozeman Fire Department serves the City of Bozeman which encompasses approximately 22 square miles and includes the campus of Montana State University. The University seasonally adds approximately 15,421 people our fulltime growing population of approximately 40,000. With approximately 8 miles of interstate I-90 passing through our community, we're a gateway to Yellowstone National Park, Bridger Bowl, Moonlight Basin and Big Sky Ski Resorts and often see an influx in the thousands with daily tourists and vacationers traveling by both car and air. We also locally host Montana's busiest airport; Bozeman/Yellowstone International with the most in bound flights of both commercial and private jets. Located so close to Yellowstone Park and its many natural attractions, we are placed in a high fault zone for earthquakes and their subsequent possibly tragic aftermath with structural collapse and entrapment. Bozeman Fire Department is also recognized as 1 of 6 regional HazMat teams serving the state and operates with approximately 18 HazMat technicians for both city calls, and regionally as requested by Mutual Aid. With Bozeman Fire's fast growing community to serve, we currently have property for our 4th station purchased and look at building out to provide adequate coverage and response times to those areas as the needs arise and budget allows. fire . ems . rescue . hazardous materials . public education . disaster and emergency services M Department: FIRE Activity: Public Safety FINANCIAL INFORMATION
