detector that had activated. A further update from dispatch revealed that there
was smoke in the apartment. Upon arrival the smoke was determined to have
come from food that had been left on the stove. Firefighters cleared the smoke
from the apartment for the resident.

not answering the door or telephone. Police officers gained access to the locked house. A strong natural gas
odor was noticeable in the house. Firefighters and ambulance personnel packaged and loaded the patient for
transport to the hospital. Montana Power was notified and responded to the scene. The MPC representative
detennined the furnace fan in the house was not operating properly and the patient may have used the gas
