Mayor and Commissioners,
With regard to the 11/17/2014 TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM DISCUSSION:
I would like to express my support for visiting this topic and evaluating the City’scurrent approach to Transportation Infrastructure. As this process proceeds, pleaseremember to take a ‘global’ look at the impacts to the community, but also don’tforget to consider the smaller, immediate impacts to individuals and neighborhoods. That being said, as outlined in the report on Page 162, I would like to encourage thecity to seriously consider forced annexation to acquire right of ways in certaincitations. For example, I would like to highlight my concern for Fowler Avenue. Perthe map on Page 169, it is clear that Fowler Avenue is planned to ultimately be aminor arterial, but the corridor extensions are located through or adjacent to ahandful of un-annexed and undeveloped properties, which will likely be developed atdifferent times. Relying on the current ‘piecewise’ approach to road infrastructuredevelopment, it is quite possible that this corridor may never be fully developed inour lifetimes. Consequently, adjacent neighborhood streets will and are alreadybeing used for thru traffic which can cause safety and maintenance issues. (Ex:Meagher, & New Holland). I would like to encourage the commission and staff toseriously consider FULL development of the Fowler arterial (Between Oak & Huffine),at one time, thus providing immediate relief to these neighborhood streets andother arterials and intersections. I look forward to seeing progress made in thisspecific area. Thanks for all the time, hard work and continued commitment toimproving Bozeman.
