Economic Development Council Memorandum
REPORT TO: Economic Development Council
FROM: Brit Fontenot, Economic Development Director
SUBJECTS:
1) Current and Future EDC Vacancies;
2) Modify the EDC meeting schedule from monthly meetings to
quarterly meetings beginning in January, 2015.
MEETING DATE: October 23, 2014
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Action
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1) Current and Future EDC Vacancies, no formal action required; and
2) Modify the EDC meeting schedule from monthly meetings to
quarterly meetings beginning in January, 2015.
BACKGROUND:
There is currently one vacancy on the EDC. Tracy Menuez resigned her appointment
over the summer when she left her leadership role with HRDC for a new position with MSU.
Additionally, two terms expire in February, 2015, see appointment details below.
As of the writing of this memo, there is one applicant for the existing vacancy. Staff
recommends postponement of filling the existing vacancy until the Commission, EDC and staff
can generate additional interest in the currently vacant and soon to be vacant positions. Staff
recommends making all three appointments at the January, 2015 meeting.

City Manager Chris Kukulski
2) Currently the EDC meets once monthly, on the first Thursday of each month. The EDC
has established two subcommittees, the Bozeman Fiber Initiative and Marketing Collaborative
committees. Members of the EDC currently serve on these committees and work on these
projects is ongoing. In the near future, staffing from the Clerk’s office at EDC meetings will
cease to exist. Deputy City Clerk Aimee Brunkhorst, who has served the EDC for many years,
has accepted a position as the Kalispell City Clerk and Communications Coordinator. The
Economic Development Department will readjust workloads and responsibilities to
accommodate for the loss of resources at EDC meetings, including preparing and delivering
audio/video and minutes for EDC meetings. Under the circumstances, Staff recommends the
EDC reschedule meetings from monthly to quarterly in recognition that work is ongoing through
two EDC committees and a reduction in resources from the Clerk’s Office requires a reallocation
of resources from the Economic Development Department.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: There are no unresolved issues at this time.
ALTERNATIVES: No alternatives are suggested.
FISCAL EFFECTS: No fiscal effects have been identified.
