Tracy Ave. To the Bozeman City Commissioners: For the past four years, we have been homeowners on South Tracy Avenue. The last two years, we have resided at 509 S. Tracy, which is nearly across the street from the above-mentioned property. During our entire time on South Tracy, this property has appeared to be vacant and in a state of disrepair. While sitting vacant was not a huge problem, this property has recently become an eyesore and perhaps a health and safety hazard to the neighborhood. Sheets of plywood now cover the windows. When discussing this recent addition of boarded windows with fellow neighbors, I was advised that evidence of individuals partying inside the vacant house necessitated that the windows be boarded. I was told that the evidence consisted of everything from discarded beer cans to drug paraphernalia. This is completely unacceptable. Not only is this house located a block from an elementary school, but South Tracy is a family-oriented street. Permitting this house to remain intact is not only an eyesore, but an invitation for further activities of this nature. As a property owner, I do not want this happening on my street. Next, a boarded up house within a block of my home no doubt diminishes my property value. A stroll down South Tracy quickly reveals that homeowners on this street take great pride in their homes. Many of us own homes with significant historical value. However, the beauty of our neighborhood is becoming overshadowed by this boarded up monstrosity. Finally, every day when I turn on Story Avenue to reach my home, the first thing I see is this wretched shell of a home. It makes me feel as if I’m entering an abandoned area in the middle of a large city, not approaching my lovely home in historic downtown Bozeman. How long will homeowners have to endure at this unsightly, and quite possibly unsafe, property? For the above stated reasons, I respectfully request that the Commissioners grant the request to demolish this property. It would be infinitely more desirable to see a vacant lot that what currently exists. Someday, I hope a new home will be built on the location and another family can join us on this lovely street that we are so fortunate to call home.
