Dear Commissioners:
The news about above acquisition was shocking to me for two reasons. First, because a quarter-
million-dollar item of equipment was acquired without the City Commission's (and public) knowledge.
Second, police militarization may be necessary under very specific circumstances in some places, but
certainly has no place in Bozeman. Ultimately when such special equipment is available it may end up
being used, possibly rightly but more often not.
The Commission and Police Department should take immediate steps to correct this incident in a
meaningful way, put policies & procedures in place to prevent future incidents like this and work on
regaining Bozeman's trust that the City's leadership and treasury is in responsible hands.
