HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Week David Smith - Feb 22, 2009David, I need to revisit the promotion of Older Americans Week and clarify a few aspects of our planning effort. The City Senior Advisory Board is composed of unpaid retired volunteers, also we have no budget to work with, as is the case for other City Boards. Our overall scheduling has gone very well with commitments of space, time and speakers from the Hospital, the Library, the Bozeman Police Department, and the Senior Center. The four senior living facilities in Bozeman have been visited by one of our Board members, and will be included. Similarly, the local fitness centers have been contacted by email and because their past marketing efforts they will almost surely participate as well. That leaves only the commercial retail, grocery, and food businesses for us to contact in the most cost effective and productive manner possible, to seek senior discounts during Older Americans Week. After some serious deliberations and consulting with a few special persons it is clear that getting the attention of local merchants can be a major consideration. The Bozeman City Senior Advisory Board operates without any budget and we will not ask the City for even postage costs as they struggle with budget matters. Thus there are 3 things I will specifically ask you. 1. Could the Chamber give their written support for Older Americans Week? 2. Could the Chamber distribute the announcement below to members of the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce, perhaps in a special email or in your next newsletter? 3. Could you post a link (as given below) to the announcement and agenda for Older Americans Week on the Chamber’s web site? If there are changes you would want to have made before providing your direct support please let me know so we can work something out. I look forward to hearing from you on this. Sincerely, Ken Tiahrt, Chair, Bozeman City Senior Advisory Board. ****************************************************************************** The City of Bozeman Senior Citizen Advisory Board in cooperation with the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce and the Bozeman Senior Center is preparing plans for “Older Americans Week in Bozeman and the Gallatin Valley” May 17 through May 23, 2009.  All retail merchants are invited to offer a special discount sale during Older Americans Week in Bozeman, for seniors making purchases during this time. Please place whatever advertisements that you wish to inform the public of your special sale.
