HomeMy WebLinkAboutWeed Control Public Comment from Mary VantHull, 8-4-14 Public comments on Weed Control, for the City Commission on 8/4/14 I've been communicating with professional and private individuals so exten- sively that this is just a partial list, including some with whom my contact up til now has been tenuous: Numerous people who visit Burke Park; several members of the Montana State University Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences; State of Montana Department of Agriculture, both in Helena and in Bozeman; board members and employees of the Bozeman Deaconess Foundation Board; State of Montana Department of Natural Resources; Gallatin County Weed Control; and others. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems no one is supervising the spraying of herbicides on private property within the Bozeman City limits. There are increasing signs & anecdotal evidence that indiscriminate spraying is doing damage to Bozeman residents' health, safety & welfare. Some cities now are apparently putting some regulations in place regarding spraying on private property within their city. With Bozeman being the fastest-growing city in Montana, just as the Bozeman City commission once put stream setback regulations into plac, it appears evident that it's time to have some regulation of weed spraying. Bozeman has a wealth of expertise at Montana State University in the Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences. Will the City Commission please start the ball rolling to see that Bozeman protects all of us from harmful spraying? As one among many people said to me, "Weed killer is absolutely not discriminating so as to just hitting what you want it to. It hits everything. The wildflowers on Peets Hill and all around are glorious and precious and are totally vulnerable to weed killer."
