Richard Thompson Conrad Industrial Park, Conrad, MT Water system engineer providing water modeling for design alternatives for water infrastructure to a proposed industrial park. Client: City of Conrad Green Hills Ranch, Bozeman, MT Wastewater engineer for a small public system that was polluting down gradient water with nitrate. The system appeared to be operating as designed, but the dilution available beneath the drainfield was over estimated, resulting in elevated nitrogen in the groundwater down-gradient of the drainfield. The magnitude of the problem required additional treatment to remove the nitrogen removal. With numerous types of systems approved by MDEQ to remove nitrogen, Mr Pool concluded that a recirculating trickling filter will provide the best balance of level of treatment with limited operation and maintenance complexity. After reviewing the three principal "brands" of systems, selection of the preferred system was based on compatibility with existing components, overall installation cost, operation complexity, and owner's preference. To comply with the existing wastewater permit, the treatment system needs to be designed and approved in 2011, and constructed in 2012.
